Collaborating with Educa for digital mobility
Digital mobility is to be made consistently possible across all stages of education. With this goal in mind, Educa and Switch, the two specialist organisations for the Swiss Education Area, are pooling their competencies in digital identity in the education sector.
As students move from nursery school through the various levels of mandatory and post-mandatory schooling, vocational training and further training, and through the academic education system, they are given frequently changing forms of access to digital sources. In the foreseeable future, reports and certificates will increasingly be issued digitally. Against this backdrop, Educa and Switch will continue to develop digital identity services for primary school, secondary level and universities together, and jointly represent the education sector when it comes to digital policy. In 2025, they are planning a joint conference on digital mobility in education. As with data usage, the digital identity is part of the digitalisation strategy of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK), which has been in place since June 2018. The development of digital identity services is also of strategic importance for the Swiss Education Area as part of the cooperation between the federal government (SERI) and the cantons (EDK).
Switch edu-ID is the digital identity from the Switch Foundation which remains valid for life. It has become an established part of the basic digital infrastructure at university level in Switzerland. Today, it connects over a million users with more than 1,500 national and international services in education and research. Edulog, supported by EDK and operated by Educa, simplifies access to online services for primary schools and schools at secondary level. Most recently, the canton of Basel-Landschaft and Swissdox AG joined Edulog together.
Tom Kleiber, Managing Director of Switch, cites the first examples of its use: “Digital mobility across all stages of education is the focus of our increased collaboration with Educa. Examples include digital admission to universities at home and abroad with a school-leaving certificate and the digital verification of educational qualifications and skills with digital certificates across educational levels, including with a view to the rest of Europe.”
Toni Ritz, Director of specialist agency Educa: “Digital educational offerings shape the education of pupils and students. They support lifelong, personalised learning pathways at all levels of primary school, in vocational training, at middle schools, universities and in all areas of further education. With the Conference for Digital Mobility, we are creating a platform at the interface between public education and private players.”
