Learning Objectives
At Hack The Hacker, the focus is on password security. Participants learn why we use passwords and the risks they pose, both from social engineering and technical attacks (such as brute-force attacks). The game also explains how passwords are stored as hashes and how easy it can be to crack the hash of a weak password.
This game fosters a deep understanding of the importance of creating strong passwords and storing them securely.
What is Ransomware?
Ransomware is a type of malware that encrypts all data on the infected computer. Without the correct decryption code, the data is lost. The attacker profits by extorting the data owner, demanding money in exchange for the code.
It is generally advised not to pay the ransom, as there’s no guarantee the data will be restored. Reports estimate that ransomware attacks could reach 500 million per year, with the average damage from a successful attack being $4.5 million.
